AHEC Program Updates
September 2017- August 2018 will be the final year the Alaska AHEC Program will provide support services for clinical rotation students. Due to shifts in federal funding initiatives, the Alaska AHEC will be developing the AHEC Scholars Program, a longitudinal, interdisciplinary program which will launch Fall 2018. Following the launch, all AHEC program funding will be allocated specifically to AHEC Scholars. |
The AHEC Scholars Program will consist of the following elements:
|
AHEC Scholar cohorts will include 15-25 new students per center, per academic year. Cohorts must be students from multiple disciplines (e.g. medicine, nursing, social work and other allied health programs).
The AHEC Program is actively seeking faculty and student input in development of the program during our planning year. If you are interested in being part of this process or in becoming an AHEC Scholar in the future, we would love your input. Please contact Alaska AHEC Director, Gloria Burnett, gburnett3@alaska.edu. |
C.H.A.M.P
Careers in Health: Alaska Mentoring Program The C.H.A.M.P program is designed for rural high school students with an interest in pursuing a career in health care. The program will continue to operate during the 2017-18 school year as a recruitment effort for the AHEC Scholars Program. Interior AHEC will specifically reach out to rural high school seniors, providing opportunities for students to explore different careers available in the world of health care. C.H.A.M.P students are given opportunities to job shadow, tour health care facilities, attend classes on professionalism, resume writing, interviewing and more. To find out more about the C.H.A.M.P program, please contact Rebecca Bruntz, Interior AHEC Education Outreach Specialist, Rebecca.bruntz@foundationhealth.org |
